This outfit was for a group costume with some of my friends in 8th grade! We all went as white chess pieces, and I was the knight.
I used thin EVA foam for the body armor and thicker EVA foam for the helmet, with faux leather for the raised pieces. The "mane on the helmet was meant for a bike helmet, and the mask (since we were still required to wear masks in school) had a jersey knit lining.
First, I patterned everything! Almost all of the components were one piece, with the pauldrons being two and the breastplate being three. We put everything together with hot glue, spray painted everything glossy white, and gemtaced the embellishments on! We put in grommets for all the lacing so nothing would rip.
I layered two pieces of sheer white fabric for the skirt, and it tied with a ribbon under the waist cincher part of the armor.
I'm honestly pretty impressed with this! I think I definitely captured the idea of the white knight, and the shape of the helmet is a fun homage to the piece being shaped like a horse. It also matched my friends' costumes well!
I am so glad that I made this costume. It was so much fun dressing up with my friends (who were the rook and bishop, respectively), and I think we made quite the set. While there are some fit issues with the armor, I think 8th grade me did a remarkable job!
