This was my Halloween costume from freshman year! I was Silica from Sword Art Online, specifically the outfit that she was introduced in. I made her armor (minus the pauldrons for practicality) and tunic, as well as Pina, her pet dragon!
For the armor we used EVA foam sealed with elmers glue, then spray painted silver. The breastplate was a fun challenge to get the right shape with only one seam, but I think it turned out pretty well! To get the gloves the right color, we dyed them, and we attached the armor plates with hot glue.
For the tunic I used a relatively stiff fabric so it would keep its shape, and bias tape along the edges to get the red. The center panel conceals a zipper, and it's held in place by the breastplate!
For Pina I made a pattern with six pieces, the sides, her stomach, and then three panels for her head. The wings went on after I constructed her body, and the ruff went in between the head and her neck. Her tails are just thin slightly curved tubes, and they curled by themselves when I turned them right side out! To attach her to my shoulder we used velcro, and her eyes were the kind that people use for needle felting.
I'm so happy with how this turned out! I think the colors are great, and I'm infinitely pleased with the collar and how well it stands up! The gloves are also absolutely perfect.
I think if I were to make this again I would probably exaggerate the skirt of the tunic a little more, but other than that I wouldn't change a thing! It looked great with mom's costume too.
