This was my Halloween costume junior year! I was Snow White from the movie Mirror Mirror, specifically the outfit that she gets from the Dwarves after deciding to fight back against the Queen. I decided to simplify the corset a bit for the sake of time, doing outlines instead of full embroidery, but I kept the rest of the costume as accurate as possible!
I made the corset first because I felt like it would be the most time consuming part of the process. I draped the general shape on the dress form first, then I fit it on myself! After I cut out all the pieces and sewed together the outer layer, I made a template of where I wanted all the embroidery outlines to be.
I exacto-knifed out all the shapes, and used a gel pen to draw the outlines onto the wrong side of the outside of the corset, then machine sewed the line art on! It made a really fun effect, and was way less time consuming than hand embroidery would have been.
I turned the seam allowance on the inner layer into channels for the boning, and then sewed the pieces together along the bottom edge. Then I cut and inserted the boning, making sure there was enough room to topstitch the bottom when I was done. I hand sewed the top edge together, including attaching the straps, to make sure that I didn't accidentally clip one of the bones with my machine. Once that was done, I sewed the front edges shut with my machine and added buttons and ribbon loops for the closure!
The blouse was super simple to make, I traced and widened a shirt that I already had onto the turquoise linen and added ribbon channels for the elastic. I decided not to add the split in the neckline for the sake of some added security.
The pants were a fun challenge, especially since I wanted them to almost look like a skirt while I was standing still. I made them from the same fabric as the corset, and used a pattern for a pair of shorts that I liked the fit of as the base. I lengthened and widened it pretty dramatically, and I think it worked well! There are small pleats in the front to build the volume quickly, and I did an invisible zipper along one hip with a button on the waistband for the closure.
I'm super pleased with how this turned out! I think it's super accurate to her costume in the movie, and the corset fits me like a glove. The pants are also super comfortable, and I think they fit me well!
I think the only thing that bothers me about this outfit is how the blouse bunches under my arms when I untuck it enough to have a decent range of motion. Other than that though, I think this is one of my favorite costumes that I've made so far!
