For this skirt I'm not sure if there was any exact inspiration that I had, I know that I was inspired by the 1950s full-skirted silhouettes, but the fabric with the yellow polkadots was a very spur-of-the-moment idea. I know I wanted it to be super versatile, and I think that I succeeded on that!
To make this skirt, I followed a pretty basic formula. I measured my waist and how long I wanted the skirt, and cut out the circle from there! It ended up having one side seam, into which I inserted a zipper. The waistband overlaps slightly so that there's room for a button over the zipper. Since the fabric is so lightweight, I did a french seam and a rolled hem so that the raw edges weren't visible. I had recently gotten a sewing machine that could do embroidery stitches, so I picked one with a pattern of chevrons that almost look like wings.
I'm really happy with how this turned out! I've worn it a bunch, for a lot of different occasions, and it's held up really well over the years. It's super versatile, and depending on how I style it it works for a lot of different aesthetics.
I absolutely love this skirt, and I'd consider making another one with a different fabric. The movement that it has, being a circle skirt, is really nice, and I don't think I'd change anything about it!
