I am so incredibly pleased that I got the opportunity to be part of this camp! We spent the week designing and creating fashion pieces based on themes found in the work of Karl Lagerfeld, which was on display in the museum at the time. The themes I was assigned were Roccoco and Counterculture. I decided to create a skirt inspired by a robe a la francaise, and use a blazer to drive home the counterculture inspiration. It's difficult to capture in photos, but the green fabric I used on the skirt is ever so slightly shimmery, thanks to tiny metallic gold threads woven into it!
Aside from the fact that it was at the Met, there were two things about this camp that I found incredibly cool: the fact that we used entirely upcycled garments, and the fact that we got to walk on the runway wearing what we had made!
I made this shirt in Made Institute's Adult Sewing 2 class! This was my first time making a garment this complicated, and I'm super pleased with how it turned out. I learned how shirt collars are constructed, how to make sleeve plackets, and how to sew a reinforced yolk!
I made this dress as part of the Made Institute's Teen Fashion Camp! It was my first time using French seams, and I learned how to make my own bias tape.
I made this hoodie during the Made Institute's Teen Fashion Camp! It was my first time making a hoodie, and my second project with a serger.
I wasn't the biggest fan of the unembellished fabric, so I appliqued stripes from the fabric I designed onto the sleeves and pocket. I'm super pleased with how it turned out!
I have made myself two t-shirts, both of which are cropped, and both of which at the Made Institute!
The rainbow one was the first that I made, during the Teen Fashion Camp, and I designed the fabric myself. It was my first time using a serger!
The one with the ghosts was a review of using the serger, during the Adult Sewing 1 class.
